IN101: BICSI Installer 1 Training

This course is designed to provide entry-level installers with the background, knowledge and basic skills needed to function safely and effectively as part of a cabling installation team. The BICSI Installer 1 Training course is the introductory course of the Installation Program series. Learn more by reviewing the course information section below.

IN101 Course Information

  • Why Should You Attend?

    The Installer 1 designation is the start of a rewarding career path full of continuing advancement opportunities.

    In this course you will learn essential information as an entry-level installer:

    • Professionalism at the work site
    • Transmission fundamentals
    • Safety practices and procedures

     

    You will also gain an advantage over other installers by getting hands-on practice in:

    • Pulling cable
    • Performing multiple IDC terminations (66, 110, LSA and BIX)
    • Terminating coaxial cable
    • Performing basic testing of copper cabling installations

     

    Please note: the Installer 1 (INST1) exam is not included in the course fee. You must register for the exam separately.

  • Who Should Attend?

    This program is ideal for:

    • Individuals with little or no cabling experience

    • Anyone wishing to pursue a career in ICT cabling distribution

    • Individuals needing basic knowledge of and skills in cabling installation

    • Anyone planning to take the BICSI Installer 1 exam (apply for the exam separately)
  • What Are the Knowledge and Skills Requirements?

    Participants must be able to:

    • Distinguish between different colors
    • Possess manual dexterity to complete fine motor tasks
    • Stand for extended periods of time (e.g., 30 minutes)
    • Climb ladders
    • Lift and carry items weighing ≈22.7 kg (50 lb)
  • What Are the Prerequisites and Preparation Required?

    Little or no experience is needed to sit for this class.

    However, BICSI strongly recommends reading the Information Technology Systems Installation Methods Manual (ITSIMM) before coming to class and/or taking the exam.

    In addition, some students may benefit from completing the online ICT Fundamentals series through BICSI CONNECT prior to attending.

    For students who plan to take the exam, BICSI recommends that examinees spend at least 50 hours studying the ITSIMM.

  • What Course Materials Are Required?

    Students must bring the Information Technology Systems Installation Methods Manual (ITSIMM) to class (hard copy and/or electronic) and a laptop or mobile device.

    Please reference the course confirmation letter as to which edition is appropriate. The manual is not included in the course fee.

    Personal or prescription safety glasses are also recommended.

  • Can I Earn Credit?

    Earn 35 Continuing Education Credits (CECs) upon successfully completing this program. 
  • What Is the Attendance Policy?

    Participation in all originally scheduled days of the program is mandatory in order to receive the certificate of completion and 35 CECs.

    Participants who fulfill the attendance requirement will receive a certificate of attendance at the end of the program. Please note that this is not the Installer 1 Credentialing Certificate, which requires a special exam application (apply by clicking on link below).

  • How Long Is This Course?

    This class takes place over a period of 4.5 days; 5.5 days for students planning to take the exam to earn the Installer 1 (INST1) certificate.

  • Three or more students from the same company preregister for the same class at the same time.
  • A student preregisters for three or more classes at the same time.

BICSI CONNECT courses and training provided by companies outside of BICSI are not eligible for these discounts.
